“We must understand that childbirth is fundamentally a spiritual, as well as a physical achievement. The birth of a child is the ultimate perfection of human love.”
- Dr. Grantley Dick-Read
As a doula, I want to support women through their pregnancy and labor to achieve this spiritual and physical success. I believe that as women, our bodies instinctively know what to do and how to do it. However, modern society has taught us that child birth is a medical emergency, one that needs to be left in the hands of doctors to fix. That’s why I’m here- to educate you, empower you, and support you so that you may take back your power during labor. You don’t have to let doctors make the decisions for you or fight for what you want in the throes of labor. I’ll work with you so that you can make informed decisions whether you choose to birth at home, in a hospital, or in a birthing center.
-
Unlike other doulas, I require a minimum of 5 prenatal visits so that I can go over important information for not only labor, but your pregnancy. Labor is something you must prepare for. And how can you do that when you don’t have all the information? Topics we cover in your prenatals include: different pain management methods used in hospitals, natural coping techniques, labor positions, and more.
Additionally, I offer several prenatal visits before your labor so that you are familiar and comfortable with me before the big day arrives. Personal connection and understanding is at the core of how I support you.
-
My philosophy is based in allowing a woman to birth naturally and without intervention (unmedicated), unless there is a REAL medical need for it. Ultimately, though, I want to help women create the birth experience of their dreams, whatever that means for them. After you have the full picture on what your options are (in or outside of the hospital), I am here to empower you to pursue what feels right for you and your baby.
We will work out a birth plan together to give to your provider during labor, which I will then advocate for while you’re busy bringing your little baby into the world.
-
Whether you’re struggling to find resources, communicate with your doctor, navigate pregnancy, worried about labor, etc., I will be here to answer your questions as best I can, be an emotional support, advocate for you and your birth plan during labor, and much more.
